June 25, 2010. .The gap between women and men’s literacy in Nepal was one of the highest in the world due to low enrolment rates of girls, decreasing at the higher levels of education. For women over 15 it was 25 per cent in 2003, compared to 44 per cent for men. Nepal’s Education for All Programme (EFA) 2004 – 2009 aimed at eliminating gender disparity in primary and secondary education by 2009. According to UNICEF’s country statistics on Nepal it is seen that female literacy rate (15 to 24 years old) in the country in 2009 is 75% while male 86%.
