Description : A Khashia girl preparing betel leaves for sale, at her house, in Lawachara Punji in the Lawachara rain forest, in Srimangal. Betel leaf or paan is a tropical creeper belonging to the pepper family of plants. The Aryans called it tambula and the Arabs tambul. People chew it to sweeten the breath and colour the lip and tongue and also to have some narcotic pleasure. Normally, paan is chewed with lime paste and areca nut or betel nut. Many eat paan mixing it with additional elements such as coriander seed, cinnamon, cardamoms and manifold flavoured dusts. Srimangal, Moulovi Bazar, Bangladesh.
