Description : Durga Puja significantly impacts the economy, culture, and environment of West Bengal. Goddess Durga idols are crafted through a traditional clay-sculpting process that begins months before the festival. Artisans use alluvial clay from riverbeds (Here, the Jalngi River), layering it onto a straw structure to form the idol's base. The idols are then painted in workshops within the potters' colony as part of the festival preparations. Due to time pressure and a shortage of artisans, everyone in the Potter colony—including married women and children who are not usually involved in such activities—is helping to craft the clay idols in Tehatta, Nadia district, West Bengal, India.
